RESTON, VA - June 6, 2007 - Clinical Care Options (CCO), the leader in the development of innovative, interactive medical education programs for healthcare professionals, announced the launch of a new continuing medical education (CME) program that includes both online and mobile interactive decision support tools to assist in the treatment of HIV-infected patients.
“Clinicians are under immense pressure to stay current on the myriad of potentially dangerous interactions between antiretroviral medications for HIV and other therapeutic agents,” said Jeffrey L. Drezner, MD, PhD, Chief Executive Officer and Founder of CCO. “The team has taken the authors’ database of potential interactions developed for the CME program and turned it into a simple-to-use interactive downloadable tool that makes it easy to check for potential drug-drug interactions.” The tool, associated with the CME-certified program “Managing Drug-Drug Interactions in the Changing Landscape of HIV,” enables clinicians to rapidly research, review, and print reports on interactions and contraindications for hundreds of HIV therapies and other agents.
To meet the needs of HIV treaters at the point of care, CCO developed both Web-based and downloadable mobile versions of the application. The tool is available for free on the CCO Web site, clinicaloptions.com, and can be downloaded to both Palm® handhelds and Windows Mobile® for Pocket PC devices. Charles W. Flexner, MD, and Paul Pham, PharmD, BCPS, leading experts in drug-drug interactions at Johns Hopkins University Medical Center, collaborated with CCO’s editorial and engineering teams to develop the application and continue to update the information in the tool.
“I applaud CCO’s vision to create a critical resource for physicians that is current and easy to use,” said Dr. Flexner. “We have included more than 2,000 different combinations behind a very intuitive interface and will be adding new data on an ongoing basis.”
Members can instantly access the program, the online tool, and the downloadable application at clinicaloptions.com/drugdrug. Membership to the service is free following a 1-time, complimentary registration. System requirements and more information regarding the tool are also available online. The program is jointly sponsored by Medical Education Collaborative and Clinical Care Options. Physicians can earn a maximum of 1.75 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™ for completing the educational module, posttest, and evaluation. This CME program is supported by an educational grant from Tibotec Therapeutics.
